Androscoggin Animal Hospital achieves high level of veterinary excellence

January 27, 2014

Androscoggin Animal Hospital has again achieved the highest level of veterinary excellence following a thorough evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Androscoggin Animal Hospital earned AAHA reaccreditation after a rigorous review of the hospital’s patient care, practice protocols, medical equipment, facility and client service.

Unlike human hospitals, not all animal hospitals are required to be accredited.

Accredited hospitals are the only hospitals that choose to be evaluated on approximately 900 quality standards that go above and beyond basic state and provincial regulations, ranging from patient care and pain management to staff training and advanced diagnostic services. AAHA-accredited hospitals are recognized among the finest in the industry, and are consistently at the forefront of advanced veterinary medicine. AAHA standards are continuously reviewed and updated to keep accredited practices on the cutting edge of veterinary excellence.

“I would like to congratulate Androscoggin Animal Hospital on vigilantly keeping up with advancements in veterinary medicine and adhering to the Association’s high standards,” said Michael Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP, AAHA chief executive officer.  “They are clearly committed to doing their very best as evidenced by the hard work and effort they put into this voluntary process.”

Pet owners look for AAHA-accredited hospitals because they value their pet’s health and trust the consistent, expert care provided by the entire health care team. At AAHA-accredited practices, pet owners can expect to receive the highest quality care from well-trained, professional veterinary teams.

Only the top small animal hospitals in the United States and Canada have achieved accreditation by the Association. To maintain accredited status, Androscoggin Animal Hospital must continue to be evaluated regularly by AAHA.

Androscoggin Animal Hospital, located at 457 Foreside Rd. in Topsham, Maine, can be reached at 207-729-4678, online at www.androscogginanimalhospital.co  and on Facebook www.facebook.com/androscogginanimalhospital .

Located on Foreside Road in Topsham, Androscoggin Animal Hospital has been caring for the animals of the greater Topsham-Brunswick area since 1985.  Under the leadership of Drs. Susan Chadima and Jon Spelke, the hospital's 5 doctors and dedicated support staff bring a team approach in providing the highest quality of medical, surgical, and dental care for pets of all sizes and species.

The Hospital provides sophisticated and complex diagnostics and treatment options for all types of animal health problems.  At the same time, particular emphasis is placed on preventive and wellness care for pets - preventing problems before they begin, to help pets live long, healthy and happy lives.

Supporting the community in addition to providing patient care is also a priority for the Doctors and Staff.  Merrymeeting Dog Park in Brunswick and Coastal Humane Society are 2 organizations AAH is actively engaged with.  Androscoggin Animal Hospital extends its reach internationally, providing veterinary training support and services in Afghanistan.

In addition, one of our veterinarians and owners, Dr. Susan Chadima, was just listed on the '14 Vets to watch in 2014' in the Veterinary Practice News, for her work at Androscoggin Animal Hospital and abroad in Afghanistan. http://www.veterinarypracticenews.com/vet-cover-stories/14-vets-to-watch.aspx.

She is also volunteering with an excellent organization that helps service men and woman raise funds to transport stray dogs they have adopted and bonded with while serving, back to their homes when their tour is over.  It is helping these service men & woman who tend to suffer from PTSD assimilate back into home life. It’s worth a look: http://www.nowzad.com/about/our-animal-clinic/

AAHA is the only organization in the United States and Canada that accredits companion animal hospitals based on standards that go above and beyond state regulations. The Association is an international organization comprised of more than 45,000 veterinary professionals who are committed to excellence in companion animal care. Established in 1933, the Association is well-known among veterinarians for its leadership in the profession, high standards for veterinary practices and pet health care, and most importantly, its accreditation of companion-animal practices.
