Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice Celebrates 50 Years of Caring and Compassion

Lewiston, ME – 2016 marks a milestone in Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s history – they are celebrating 50 years of services to residents and their families in Maine. Throughout the years and the communities they serve, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (AHCH) is known for its high quality care and being on the forefront of health care change. In 1966, AHCH started with 1 nurse, 1 aide and 1 office support person and today, AHCH employs over 400 people with over 280 volunteers serving 122 cities, towns and townships throughout their service area.

The Agency began with home care services for the chronically ill and now they offer Home Care, Hospice Care, Supportive Care, Telehealth monitoring, a Community Care Team and several specialty services.  In 2015, AHCH served over 8,700 patients providing 244,474 visits and $1.35 million in subsidized care.

Throughout the year, events are being planned to celebrate AHCH’s 50^th Anniversary. A committee was formed to organize these events and is made up of employees, leadership team, board members, volunteers and community partners. “I’m so excited to be a part of the AHCH organization,” stated Cathy McDonald, volunteer and co-chair of the Anniversary Committee. “What an exceptional group of staff and volunteers. Celebrating 50 years in our community is quite a milestone and how fortunate we are as a community to have AHCH here.” With the leadership and oversight of community volunteers like Cathy McDonald, AHCH is able to continue to look forward to the next 50 years.

The first event will be held on April 7^th at Bedard Pharmacy. This event is co-sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank and Bedard Pharmacy. More events are planned throughout AHCH’s service area. These events are an opportunity for the Agency to thank those who have supported them throughout the years. “We have several celebrations planned,” stated Cathy McDonald, “and hope that you will join us with your support. Here is to another 50 years!”
