Curtis Friends’ 2014 Book Sale a Best Seller!

July 21, 2014

Nearly $40,000 Raised for Library Programs and Projects

BRUNSWICK, ME – July 21, 2014 – Curtis Friends, a membership-supported nonprofit organization that raises funds for programming and special projects at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, Maine, hosted its Annual Book Sale June 26-29 at Brunswick Junior High School with great success.

“While the dollars raised help support creative programming and projects at Curtis Library for children and adults, the reward of the weekend truly comes from seeing how many different people and groups come together over the two weeks it takes to make this such a fun, social event for everyone in the community,” says Board President Judith Redwine of Harpswell.  “Whether the crew of Navy volunteers from BIW who helped move over 2,500 boxes of books from our storage shed to the Junior High gymnasium; or the teenagers who helped unpack over 65,000 books and other items; or the woman who plans her summer vacation around volunteering several days at the book sale – the Curtis Friends Book Sale brings together book lovers of all ages and interests to celebrate the printed word, the quest for the next great read, and the cultural center that is our community library.”

In addition to supporting library programming, book sale proceeds help underwrite Curtis Library’s popular Museum Pass program, the Mystery Writer Series, the Best Seller Express, and more.

294 volunteers transported 175 tables from 7 organizations; moved 2,556 boxes and unpacked 65,768 items; sold 45,515 items; and raised $39,918.
