Fortin Group raises $2,400 to support Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice

August 12, 2015

Lewiston, ME- On July 25th the Fortin Group held their annual yard sale to benefit Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (AHCH). Funds raised are dedicated to AHCH’s Veteran to Veteran initiative and the Hospice House. The event was spearheaded by staff members Marcia Roy and Jerry Poulin. “We began collecting items shortly after last year’s event and are proud that we were able to double the amount raised in our first year,” states Roy.

Both AHCH and the Fortin Group are participating in We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization to improve end of life care for our nation’s veterans. The program seeks to recognize the unique needs of veterans and their families by increasing organizations’ capacity to serve veterans through education, support and strategic partnerships. AHCH’s veteran to veteran initiative includes; matching hospice patients who are veterans with volunteers who have military experience, hosting pinning ceremonies and making special recognition of veteran patients at the Hospice House

“Our Veteran to Veteran initiative began just a year ago. The feedback we have received from families has been wonderful, stated Karen Flynn, AHCH Hospice Director. “Having a fellow veteran to share stories with, who understand what it’s like to be in the military is really comforting for many veteran patients. This connection enables our veteran patients to share feelings and experiences they may not feel comfortable telling family members or friends,” states Flynn.

The Fortin Group yard sale is just one of the many Family and Friends events held each year to benefit Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.
