New Bookstore, Twice-Told Tales

April 8, 2015

Curtis Friends, the volunteer organization that supports Curtis Memorial Library, has announced its plans to open a used bookstore in Brunswick.  To be located at 11 Pleasant Street, the bookstore will be called Twice-Told Tales.  The name was chosen by popular ballot cast by more than 400 Curtis Library patrons over a recent two-week period.  According to Curtis Friends president, Judith Redwine, “The bookstore will have retail hours 6 days a week.”  Ms. Redwine went on to say, “Trading on the unmatched success of our annual 3-day book sale, we just thought it was time to make the generosity of our book donors available to the community year-round.”

The name of the bookstore, Twice-Told Tales, as explained by Curtis Friends vice-president Barbara Burr, “…really has two meanings:  First, of course, it alludes to the fact that the books are ready to be enjoyed beyond their first reading. But secondly,” Ms. Burr continued, “it also honors an iconic American author and Bowdoin College graduate, Nathaniel Hawthorne.  It’s a reminder of the literary traditions of the community as still exemplified by the work of Bowdoin College, Curtis Library and, hopefully, Curtis Friends.”

The bookstore is planned to open to the public on July 6th, 2015 at 11 Pleasant Street, Brunswick
