PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $19,000 TO FOUR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN SOUTHERN MAINE

PORTLAND, ME – The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it awarded $19,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the communities it serves in Southern Maine.

 Four organizations received funding in support of services that included basic needs, business education workshops, special needs programs, and affordable housing initiatives. Recipients include Camp Sunshine at Sebago Lake, Habitat for Humanity of York County, Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, and Service Corps of Retired Executives Association.

 In total, People’s United Community Foundation awarded $883,000 in grants to 144 nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine during its third grant cycle this year. The funding was distributed within the foundation’s three areas of focus, with 42 percent allocated to community development, 37 percent to youth development, and 21percent to affordable housing initiatives.
