PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $2,500 TO MID COAST HUNGER PREVENTION PROGRAM’S FOOD PANTRY

November 16, 2015

PORTLAND, ME – The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded a $2,500 grant to Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program’s food pantry.

Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program of Brunswick, Maine provides food assistance to over 1,200 families in need each year. The nonprofit organization also offers seven programs that ensure clients receive the skills needed to live self-sufficient and healthy lifestyles.

“We are so grateful for the support of the People’s United Community Foundation,” said Karen Parker, Executive Director of Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. “The winter season can be very difficult for many of the clients we serve, as they often have to choose between heating their homes and feeding their families. The support we receive from community partners like The People’s United Community Foundation enables us to purchase more food to help those families make ends meet.”

“Having access to a healthy meal is something many of us take for granted,” said Dan Thornton, Officer of People’s United Community Foundation and Southern Maine President for People’s United Bank. “Mid Coast Hunger Prevention is a valuable resource in our community working hard to feed households in need.”

Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. People’s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include community development, youth development, and affordable housing.
