St. Paul’s Celebration of New Ministry

The Right Rev. Stephen T. Lane, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine, will preside over services to celebrate the new ministry of The Rev. Carolyn Eklund, Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant Street in Brunswick at 6pm Tuesday, May 13th.

Bishop Lane will be assisted by Dr. Lucinda Mosher, Th.D., Hartford Seminary Faculty Associate in Interfaith Studies, Director Multifaith Chaplaincy Program who will preach at the service. The celebration is in conjunction with the day that Episcopalians have dedicated to Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor in the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration. She was a daughter of Maine, and Episcopalians celebrate her as a public servant and prophetic witness.

The Rev. Thomas F. Fales organized St. Paul’s Parish in January 1844 and was the first rector of St. Paul’s, which was consecrated at its present location by The Right Rev. Henshaw, Bishop of Maine in 1845. The Rev. Eklund began her ministry at St. Paul’s last October after serving as Rector of the historic Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield, N. J. for over 12 years. There she was instrumental in extending Community Outreach that sponsored ministries throughout the city. A Kansas native, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in microbiology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. Her early career included sales, training, and product management for a pharmaceutical company. The Rev. Eklund graduated from the General Theological Seminary, New York City, with a Master of Divinity degree and in 1999 was ordained into the priesthood.

Bishop Lane previously presided over a service of celebration and dedication of the newly completed classrooms on the second floor of the Parish Hall, chancel renovation and installation of a new organ in November 2012.

St. Paul’s is celebrating its 169th year of serving the people of Brunswick and the midcoast Maine area. Newcomers and visitors are welcomed to its services for young and maturing children and their parents, including nursery care, and children and adult parish choirs.

A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Visitors are sincerely welcomed! Please call the church office at 725-5342, visit the website, www.stpaulsmaine.org, or stop in for church literature and more information.
