Sweetser’s Learning and Recovery Center in Brunswick to Remain Open

June 5, 2014

Brunswick, ME – Thanks to a generous donation and reinstatement of funds from DHHS, Sweetser’s Learning and Recovery Center will continue to serve peers in the midcoast region.

A pledge of $50,000 made by Portland attorney Daniel Lilley and his wife Annette, in memory of their son David A. Lilley, gave Sweetser the opportunity to approach the state for further negotiations. On Tuesday afternoon, DHHS informed Sweetser that they would be restoring the allocation of funding to the same level as the current fiscal year.

Cindy Fagan, Sweetser’s VP of Programs said, “We are thrilled that this has reached such a positive conclusion. The people that we serve at the LRC are beyond excited, but also relieved that the services they have come to rely on will continue to be available to them.”

A celebration potluck dinner and barbeque are planned for Wednesday, June 4 at 5:00pm. Members of the media who wish to attend should contact Stephanie Hanner, Sweetser’s communications manager at 207.468.3989.
