Community Calendar

Joy of the Pen complements the already successful Joy of Art and Joy of the Lens art and photography competitions held annually at the Topsham Public Library. The competition is open to year-round Maine residents for unpublished works only. Entries will be accepted in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction beginning September 2nd. This year we will also have a teen category for writers age 11 – 18. You can read last year’s award winning work at the Joy of the Pen blog.

Applications will be available in the Topsham Public Library or at www.topshamlibrary.org. Email emma@topshamlibrary.org for more details. The deadline for applications is October 11th at 8pm. Winners will be announced at the Joy of the Pen Reception on November 8, 2014 at the Topsham Public Library.

Maine is a state full of writers, whether it is the natural beauty of the terrain that is inspirational or something within the temperament of the artist that is drawn to the independent spirit of the place, there is a long tradition of authors residing here. Joy of Pen gives local writers a platform to show off their talent and to provide a community event to bring everyone together.
