Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber's Government Liaison Committee, Brunswick Downtown Assoc. and The Town of Brunswick are providing an opportunity for Brunswick residents, Brunswick Business Owners and Brunswick Property Owners to learn more about the Solarize Brunswick program. 

Solarize Brunswick is an easy and affordable way for Brunswick residents and businesses to get their electricity from solar energy. In essence, Solarize Brunswick is a bulk-purchase program that reduces the costs of installing a solar photovoltaic (PV) system for a home or business.

Based on similar programs used successfully all across the nation, the Town issued a Request for Proposals to certified installers of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The Town is simultaneously gathering contact information from residents and businesses who want to learn whether they can benefit from rooftop solar. Next, the ball will be handed off to the installer, who will contact everyone on the town’s list. Ultimately, the more people that sign a contract with the installer, the lower the price for everyone, even the first to sign up.

In 2009, Portland Oregon was the first city to go solar. Since then, Solarize programs have spread throughout the nation. Locally, one of the first programs in Maine was established recently in Freeport, where the bulk-purchase savings ranged from $750 to $1,500 (depending on the size of the installation). Those savings were in addition to the 30% Federal tax credit that is currently available, but is set to expire at the end of 2016.

The event is free of charge. PLEASE register ahead of time so that all can be accommodated. Coffee, tea, water and light refreshments will be provided.
