Speaking in Public: Making Effective Presentations 9:00 AM United Way of Mid Coast Maine, 34 Wing Farm Parkway , Bath

Speaking in public is said to be the greatest fear that people have, even surpassing the fear of death. Yes, speaking in public (making presentations) can be stressful, leading to symptoms of “stage fright” or “butterflies”: dry mouth, sweaty palms, jittery stomach, and memory lapses. However, there are ways that a presenter can minimize these symptoms (so that the “butterflies at least fly in formation”) and then can focus on getting the message across. We admire those who can “connect” with their audiences and often wonder how we might be able to do likewise. In this workshop, participants will learn what makes a really effective presentation, have the chance to practice in a safe environment, and receive specific feedback on behaviors to practice after the workshop.

This Event Will Cover:

Tips and techniques for reducing the butterflies both before and during a presentation
Body language recommendations for appearing at east in front of your audience
Practice and feedback from your colleagues in a safe environment
