Spectrum Generations Hosts 18th Annual Gene and Lucille Ice Fishing Derby to benefit Meals on Wheels 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Muskie Community Center on 38 Gold Street (weigh in) , Waterville

It seemed as though winter would never come this year, but now the cold weather and snow has finally arrived. As the ice starts to thicken, Spectrum Generations is preparing for the 18th Annual Gene and Lucille Ice Fishing Derby on Sunday, February 28th, to benefit Meals on Wheels and other programs that help older and disabled adults live healthy, happy and independent lives.

The event, in memory of avid sportsman and environmentalist Gene Letourneau and his wife Lucille, brings folks of all ages from all over surrounding communities to compete for multiple prizes including first and second place prizes for adults and first, second and third places for children with 8-10 fish categories depending on the age group (see website for fish rules and prizes).

Gene & Lucille were longtime volunteers and advocates for the Meals on Wheels program. Spectrum Generations has been delivering meals throughout central and mid-coast Maine for over 40 years and the need for these nutritious meals to homebound and disabled adults is only increasing.

The weigh-in station will be outside the Muskie Community Center on 38 Gold Street in Waterville from 2:00-5:00pm on Sunday, February 28th with a live auction immediately following. There will be inside activities for those who want to warm up from being on the ice all day. Food and beverages will be served by our very own Cohen on the Meadows catering as well as Courtney’s famous Hotdogs. There will also be an activity center for children.

Tickets to enter are $3 each, two for $5 or 5 for $10. Each ticket purchased entitles you to enter one fish in the competition. The ticket is also good for one entry for you to win our door prize, a Cabela’s pop-up Ice Shack, along with more great prizes TBA. You can purchase your tickets by visiting the Muskie Community Center at 38 Gold Street in Waterville, by calling 873-4745 to purchase by phone, or by visiting www.spectrumgenerations.org/annual-ice-fishing-derby. (Tickets also available at other participating locations. See website for details)
