UUCB CONCERTS FOR A CAUSE:
MAINE GAY MEN’S CHORUS

Celebrate a “GREAT DAY” with the Maine Gay Men’s Chorus with an afternoon of music, laughter, and pride at the UU Church of Brunswick on Sunday, May 15.

After a 3-year hiatus, the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus has regrouped with a new name and is now performing again with powerful music to inspire all. The original Portland Gay Men's Chorus was established in 1992 and performed until 2012. The new Maine Gay Men's Chorus was relaunched in January 2015.

The Maine Gay Men's Chorus is an organization of gay men and their allies, dedicated to excellence in the choral arts. They are committed to providing a positive and productive educational, social, and entertainment experience for their members, friends and audience. Through their music, they strive to educate themselves and the community at large by delivering the message of social acceptance and diversity.

Artistic Director, Larry Jackson, holds a master’s degree in music and has been teaching instrumental music in the public schools for 28 years. He also served many years as Choir director at Unity Church in Windham. Larry has also performed in many singing groups himself. He has sung with the Portland Choral Art Society, the Master works Chorus, the Choral Art Singers, the Camerata singers, Mary Schola, and Renaissance Voices.

Accompanist Sarah Phinney began playing the organ at church at the age of twelve. She went on to Bowdoin College and earned a minor in music. In addition to the Maine Gay Men’s Choir, Sarah has also accompanied numerous other musical groups and performances in the Midcoast and Southern Maine area.

The chorus will perform an eclectic repertoire of powerful and fun music, including Broadway show tunes, pop and jazz standards, beautiful folk ballads, and comic numbers. You will be thoroughly entertained and moved by this group of talented singers!
