Museums in the Region
Southern Midcoast is full of unique and interesting museums with ever-changing and fascinating exhibits. (Many arae free of charge.)
The Museum of Art on the Campus of Bowdoin College houses one of the oldest and most prized college art collections in the nation. A $20.8 million renovation and expansion, completed in 2007, improves visitor access to the landmark McKim, Mead and White building.
The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum on the Campus of Bowdoin reflects the long tradition of work in the Arctic by Bowdoin faculty, students, and alumni since 1860. The Museum is named in honor of Arctic explorers and Bowdoin alumni, Robert E. Peary and Donald B. MacMillan.
Pepepscot Museum and Research Library located at 159 Park Row, Brunswick provides rotating exhibitions explore the history of Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell. Also available is the largest repository of General Joshua L. Chamberlain material.
Maine Maritime Museum located at 243 Washington St., Bath offers a myriad of opportunities to explore Maine’s maritime heritage and culture and to experience the mystique of Maine.
The Musical Wonder House located at 18 High St., Wiscasset, offers one of a kind music boxes and lovely sounds!
