AHCH 2015 Hospice House 5Ks raise nearly $80,000

June 2, 2015

Auburn & Farmington, ME— Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s (AHCH) 7th Annual Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walks took place this past May 3rd on Main Street in Farmington and May 17th at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.  Between the two events, AHCH had more than 890 people come out to run or walk in memory of their loved ones.  AHCH’s Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk also serves to help raise money for patient and family care at their Auburn Hospice House for those with little to no health insurance.  The 2015 events together raised more than $79,900.

“I am completely amazed what our Hospice House 5K teams and individuals can do.” States Julie Shackley, AHCH President/CEO.  “For nearly 900 people to come out to run or walk in memory of their loved ones and put such great effort into raising funds to ensure that others receive the same quality end of life care that their friend or family member received is just astounding.  We feel extremely blessed that so many dedicate their time and efforts to our mission.”

66 teams were formed, ranging everywhere from 2 to 94 members. In addition to the event participants, the Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk relies on its 20 Planning Committee Members and 75 day-of volunteers to make the event a success.  Ken Goodwin, Co-Chair for the Auburn Planning Committee said “This event would not happen were it not for the efforts of our many volunteers.  They plan the event year round, are there day-of making sure it runs smoothly and are there after it is over cleaning and doing follow up.  We could not be more thankful for the amazing individuals who so freely give of their time and their talents.”

The 2016 Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walks are set for May, dates to be announced at a later time.  Anyone interested in learning more about the event is encouraged to visit the agency’s website at www.HHRunWalk.org.  The 2016 Hospice House 5K Planning Committee is seeking new members, if interested please contact the AHCH Marketing & Development Office at HospiceHouse5K@ahch.org or call (207)795-9469.
