AHCH’s Autumn Night Out Raises over $64K for Hospice Patients

November 5, 2015

On Friday October 23rd Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (AHCH) hosted its 12th Annual Autumn Night Out Gala & Auction, a fundraiser for the agency’s hospice program. The evening raised more than $64,000 to help supplement care for hospice patients in need, as well as support the agency’s bereavement and volunteer services.  Autumn Night Out, held at Poland Spring Resort in Poland, sold out this year with 235 people seated in the dining room.  17 of the agency’s staff and volunteers gave their time to serve as volunteers at Autumn Night Out, helping to ensure the evening ran as smoothly as possible.  Valet parking was provided courtesy of the staff at Fortin Group Funeral Homes.

Cyndi Robbins, Chair of the Autumn Night Out Planning Committee and owner of Poland Spring Resort & Golf said “Because of the generosity of our sponsors and the hard work of our event planning committee, we are also excited to say that the event is operated well under 50% of the sponsorship dollars raised.  That means that not only does 100% of the funds raised through ticket sales and auction items directly impact patient care, but so does 50% of the sponsors’ dollars.”

Autumn Night Out consisted of more than 250 silent and live auction items running the gamut from gift baskets, to art work, home goods, dining gift certificates, family excursions, furniture, get away packages, sporting and entertainment tickets and autographed memorabilia from the Portland Sea Dogs, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. Guests played the fan-favorite “Heads or Tails” raffle, as well as tried their luck at the Wall of Wine.  Norm Karkos of WMTW News 8 served as Master of Ceremonies and William “Bill” Zaffirson was auctioneer.  In recognition of AHCH’s 10 year anniversary of the Hospice House, members of the Poland Spring Players and actors from the Lewiston Auburn Community Little Theatre presented a live performance entitled “Stories of Hospice”: chronicling the hospice experience many come to know. To end the evening comedian Johnny Ater performed, with Will Green as his opening act.

Mary MacMahon, a former board member for AHCH and long standing donor to the agency said “My husband and I are very proud to be helping to make a difference for people during a very difficult time in their lives by attending Autumn Night Out.  The number of lives impacted by Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice is amazing, we are happy to do our part supporting this wonderful non-profit organization by attending events and donating to the agency’s annual fund.”
