Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice Announces Employees of the Yea

May 12, 2016

Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (AHCH) presented seven outstanding individuals with Employee of the Year Awards at the agency’s gathering in April. Each year, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice recognizes and honors employees who have made outstanding contributions to the agency throughout the year. The recipients were nominated by their peers for exemplifying one or more of the agency’s values – integrity, stewardship, accountability, compassion, quality and trust.

The award recipients are:

Maureen Andrew, RN at the Hospice House, cares so much for her patients, co-workers, the Agency’s mission and the needs of her community. Maureen is committed to meeting her patient’s goals; she takes the time to listen and learn about what is more important to the patient at the end of their life. Whether it’s a patient who has not been able to eat and really wants to taste something special one last time, someone who wants to have a date night with their spouse, or someone who wants to visit their favorite place for the last time, Maureen “thinks outside the box” to make it happen. Maureen truly represents the Agency’s values and more!

Kathy Gould, Hospice Aide in the Wilton Office, continually performs her duties with grace and quiet companionship. Kathy stays focused and calm despite some challenging situations. She has an infectious, quiet giggle which always puts a smile on the patient’s face. Kathy does not hesitate to communicate with nurses on her team to alert them of situations needing attention. She gives astute, descriptive explanations that demonstrate her years of experience and dedicate.

Anita Lane, RN in the Lewiston office, is known as a team member who really cares about everyone. She is very patient focused, always putting continuity of care as a priority. Anita is a very strong, consistent, and professional communicator, a quality very much needed in her particular role. She is positive about challenges and changes and is an example to others. Anita has changed her schedule many times to accommodate the Agency’s needs and will always work extra if needed.

Diane Marcotte, RN in the Bridgton office, is the definition of a team player. She is calm in a crisis and is always willing to take on extra to help a co-worker. Diane is always able to redirect everyone’s focus to what is important – the patients. She provides excellent patient care and has a vast knowledge of home care, but isn’t afraid to think outside of the box. Diane’s patients often ask for her by name if they have the need of our services again. She also cares about the cohesiveness of her team, taking the initiative to advocate for a more unified team. She is viewed as a “blessing” for her team.

Ann Perkins, Performance Improvement Coordinator in the Lewiston Office, has a very specific role in the Performance Improvement department but is often called upon to assist with or lead projects across functions and departments because of her skills in process improvement, innovation and collaboration. She demonstrates a natural ability as an effective listener and negotiator, maintains a calm and centered approach in managing concerns of others and works collaboratively with all those involved to achieve the best possible outcome. Ann approaches everything she does in a humble, patient centered, objective and compassionate manner.

Chuck Smith, Social Worker on the Community Care Team, has brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the program since coming to the agency three years ago. One co-worker stated “He is frankly the best community resource expert I have ever worked with and I have worked with many for the past 20 years! He is very knowledgeable, patient and works diligently to get his patients the maximum services and support that will help them live more successful lives.” The team and Agency are blessed to have him.

Nina Sweet, RN on the Hospice Team, is well loved by patients and staff alike. She is clearly committed to the needs of the patients and families. Nina is kind, calm, and knowledgeable. She is dedicated to the growth and visibility of the hospice program. One co-worker stated, “She is such a calm presence, she puts the patients and families at ease”.

Also honored was Linda Frechette, RN in Norway, who received the 2015 Recognition Hotline Award. Linda received several peer recognitions for consistently going above and beyond. One peer wrote, “We appreciate Linda for her willingness to go out of her way to assist her coworkers and always making our patients a priority.” Another wrote, “Linda is a great team player, always ambitious, conscientious and thoughtful. She is a huge asset to AHCH!”

“Our employees are the heart and soul of this agency. Their professionalism, knowledge, compassion and sincerity toward their patients are qualities admired by all. It is difficult to choose only ten to be awarded, but this year’s recipients are more than worthy of this honor. Every member of the team plays an invaluable role in the success of this agency,” stated Julie Shackley, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice President/CEO.

2016 marks Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s 50th anniversary. For the past 50 years, AHCH has grown to become known as one of Maine’s most respected home health and hospice care agencies.
