Applications for Herb Paris Health Career Scholarship now open

Brunswick, ME – Applications are now open for the Herb Paris Health Career Scholarship, available to area high school students, college students, and hospital employees interested in pursuing or furthering a career in healthcare.

Each year, the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary awards approximately $40,000 in Herb Paris Health Career Scholarships to deserving students. To be considered, applicants must plan to pursue an education at an accredited institution and major in a program that will lead to a healthcare career.

The scholarship program sponsors Midcoast area students attending college, technical colleges, or other technical training. The Scholarship Committee receives an average of 30 new applications each year, and through a very selective screening process, selects which students to support.

According to Linda Fairfield, Scholarship Committee Chair, in 2018 the Auxiliary awarded nine high school seniors, three non-traditional students, and four current awardees a total of $18,500 to support their education.

“It’s a great feeling to give to so many well-deserving students,” said Fairfield.

Grant amounts for the Herb Paris Health Career Scholarship range from $500 to $2,000, and students can potentially receive the scholarship for up to four years. To continue receiving the funds, however, students must maintain a grade standard and submit reports each semester, including course listings and transcripts.

Funding is made possible through the hard work and dedication of the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary, which raises several thousands of dollars to support Mid Coast Hospital’s mission each year through various fundraisers.

The application deadline for this year’s Herb Paris Health Career Scholarship is April 15, 2019.
