BAR HARBOR BANKSHARES ELECTS DAVID WOODSIDE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Bar Harbor, Maine - Bar Harbor Bankshares (NYSE Amex: BHB) the parent company of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust (the "Bank"), today announced that following its Annual Meeting of Shareholders on May 17, 2016, the Board of Directors conducted its Annual Organizational Meeting and has elected independent director David Woodside to serve as Chairman of the Board, succeeding Peter Dodge. 

 Peter Dodge, of Blue Hill, Maine, had served as Chairman since 2009.  Prior to his election as Chairman in 2009, Peter Dodge had served on the Board since 1987 and served on several Board committees, most notably as Chairman of the Governance Committee from 2005 to 2016.

 Mr. Woodside, of Bar Harbor, Maine, has been a member of the Board since 2003 and has served in several Board committee capacities, most recently as Chairman of the Bank's Loan Committee since 2008.  "His in-depth knowledge of the retail and hospitality industries both in Maine and across the country provides significant expertise to the board in these important segments of the Maine economy," remarked Curtis Simard, President & CEO of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust.

 Mr. Woodside, 64, with multi-generational roots in Maine, is a native of Farmington, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  He is President and General Manager of The Acadia Corporation, a locally owned company operating retail shops, a restaurant, and lodging facility on Mount Desert Island, and has held this role since 1980.  For many years, Mr. Woodside served as vice-chair of the National Park Hospitality Association, a national organization comprised of companies operating hospitality businesses in America's national parks.  Mr. Woodside has been active in the Mount Desert Island community serving on the board of numerous non-profit organizations, including past-president of the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce and the Mt. Desert Island Rotary Club. He also served as a member of the Bar Harbor Town Council for ten years. In addition Mr. Woodside has owned several small businesses in the area. 

 In making the announcement, Mr. Dodge said, "I am very appreciative to have had the opportunity to be Chairman of the Bank.  It saddens me to miss the excitement of the future growth plans of the Bank.  I have enjoyed interacting with this great group of dedicated professionals.  However, it is my pleasure to turn over the duties of Chairman to David Woodside, who will lead the Bank in a very thoughtful, even-handed manner."
