Eaton Peabody is pleased to welcome attorney Eric C. Marshall to the firm. Mr. Marshall will be resident in the firm's Bangor office and will join the Business Practice Group.

Eric comes to Eaton Peabody from Chicago, where he has been a business lawyer at a large law firm, a shareholder at a mid-sized firm, and in-house counsel at a global energy and natural resources company. Eric’s practice focuses on new business formation, debt and equity financing, business acquisitions, cooperative ventures, and general commercial contracting. He works with start-up companies, family-owned businesses, and divisions of global corporations. He enjoys diving into the competitive dynamics of his clients' industries, and partnering with business managers and owners to guide and execute business strategies.

“Eric Marshall brings an exceptional corporate and business law practice to our law firm,” stated David Austin, Managing Partner. “Eric has significant depth and experience in the energy and motor fuels industries as well as broad-based experience in general business law practice. Eric will be an outstanding addition to our team of experienced business lawyers serving businesses throughout Maine”.

Eric says, "I am very pleased to be joining Eaton Peabody, and to be continuing its tradition of excellence in legal practice and client service. Making our move to Maine while joining a firm of top professionals is a rare and exciting opportunity; one that I expect will be fulfilling and beneficial for my family, my new firm, and my long-time clients. I look forward to getting involved in the Maine business community, and to finding ways to contribute to the culture that attracted us here."

As former in-house counsel, Eric is aware of the role that legal advice and transaction style can play in the execution of business strategy for all types of companies. He draws on practical experience and seasoned judgment to develop realistic and achievable solutions to business problems.

His chemicals and energy industry experience gives him insight into technical, process-driven manufacturing and distribution businesses, including in the pharmaceuticals, food, and naturals resources industries. As lead counsel on IT, logistics, and business process outsourcing deals, Eric has crafted contractual joint ventures that combine rigorous performance criteria with flexible management structures, recognizing that businesses need to change over time. As general legal counsel to global chemicals businesses, Eric has developed an expertise in many types of manufacturing industry transactions, including the separation or acquisition of divisional businesses, co-location of interdependent production facilities, high-volume high-value product supply and logistics arrangements, and co-gen and alternative energy transactions.

Eric spent three years as in-house counsel in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was lead attorney on European chemical industry joint ventures, corporate acquisitions, and commercial transactions.

For businesses of all types, Eric focuses on efficient and effective delivery of legal service, to manage risk and accomplish results consistent with the client's preferences and practices.

Eric received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and his bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
