Holiday Resources From United Way & 2-1-1

The holiday season has arrived!   And with many in our communities already struggling with heating their homes, the holidays may prove to be even more challenging for some this year. The United Way of Mid Coast Maine is providing you with our annual Holiday Resource List and our Directory of Services.

Bath Area Food Bank and Soup Kitchen: Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner, Thanksgiving Baskets

Thanksgiving meal served Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Sign up for Thanksgiving baskets at the food pantry. For information call 837-8832. (Not confirmed) Christmas meal served Friday, December 23, 2011.

 Bath/Brunswick Santa Claus Fund Holiday toys, mittens, hats, and bicycles for children birth to 13 years available by written request through December 15, 2011.  Letter of request, written by parent or guardian, should be mailed to the Santa Claus Fund, Inc., PO Box 278, Brunswick ME 04011. Include the child's name, sex, date of birth, residential address, and phone number.  Call 729-9572 for more information.

 Bath Elks: Christmas Baskets Christmas food baskets available by application through Monday, December 12, 2011; baskets will be delivered Saturday, December 17, 2011.  Call 443-9852 to provide name, address, and number of family members.

 Bruce Roberts Toy Fund (Cumberland, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and York)Public donations are used to purchase new safe toys. Call 791-6672 for application or donation information.

 Freeport Community Services: Holiday Helpline, Thanksgiving Baskets and Meals Congregate meal served Thursday, November 24, 2011. Thanksgiving food baskets available. Call 869-1005 to register for Thanksgiving meal or food basket.  Food and gifts available for pickup December 15, 2011, with complete application and proof of residency. Call 865-3985.

 Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Food Pantry: Thanksgiving Boxes Thanksgiving boxes available by application through November 18, 2011. Call 725-1151 for more information.

 Salvation Army of Bath/Brunswick: Holiday Food Baskets and Toys Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, and Christmas toys by application from October 31 through December 1, 2011.  Call 443-3611 for more information. 

Toys for Tots (Cumberland and Sagadahoc)New toys, collected in the community, are distributed as Christmas gifts to children in need.  For information on requesting a toy for your children, or children in another family, call the Salvation Army 443-3611.

Caring For Kids Holiday Toy Program for Bristol and South Bristol Toys, clothes, and books available by request for the 2011 holiday season. Call 677-3300 to make a request.

Christmas Tree of Giving, for Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, Southport, and Trevett, Christmas gifts available by request; donations of new toys or cash donations to purchase gifts; adopt a family or child and purchase gifts for them based on their wish lists; requests accepted through  December 10, 2011; items requested must be under $25.00.

Garden Club Giving Tree, for Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor, Toys, clothes, and books available by request for the 2011 holiday season. Call 633-2051 to make a request.

First United Methodist Church, Boothbay Harbor: Thanksgiving Dinner Thanksgiving meal served Thursday, November 24, 2011. Reservations requested; not required. Call 633-3414 for details.

Family Holiday Wishes  Applications for holiday assistance are based on the applicant’s town:  In Dresden, call Jeannine of the Bridge Charitable Trust, 737-4485.  In Damariscotta, Newcastle, Bremen, Jefferson, Alna, Somerville, Nobleboro, Wiscasset, Westport Island, Edgecomb, and Whitefield, contact Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes, 350-7799.

Nobleboro Fire Department: Toy Drive Toys available for residents of Nobleboro by application; applications accepted from November 15  through December 15, 2011. Call 563-8816 to provide child's name, age, and address.

Our Lady Queen of Peace, Boothbay Harbor: Christmas Dinner Served Sunday, December 25, 2011 at noon. Call 633-6354 for details and to sign up.

Town of Wiscasset: Thanksgiving Food Baskets Available for residents of Wiscasset call 882-8200 and sign up before November 18, 2011; pick up November 21 &22.

Waldoboro Police Toy Program Toys, hats, and mittens available by application from November 30 to December 17, 2011; winter boots available, if funds permit; pick up arranged prior to Christmas. Contact Melody at the Police Department at 832-4500.                                                      

Knox County

Area Interfaith Outreach Thanksgiving food baskets available for pick up Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Sign up at the food pantry.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church: Loaves and Fishes Thanksgiving and Christmas Meals Thanksgiving meal served Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 12:30 p.m.; call 594-8191. Christmas meal served Sunday, December 25, 2011 at 12:00 p.m.; call 594-8191.

Salvation Army of Rockland: Christmas and Thanksgiving Food Baskets and Christmas Toys Available by application for food through December 15, 2011 and toys through December 16, 2011.  Record of income and expenses for the previous 30 days for household is required. Thomaston Community Thanksgiving Dinner Thanksgiving meal served Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Thomaston American Legion Hall. Call 354-0399 for more information.
