Mid Coast Hospital named one of America’s greatest for fourth time

BRUNSWICK, ME – For the fourth consecutive year, Becker’s Hospital Review has named Mid Coast Hospital one of America’s 100 Great Community Hospitals (2019).

Released July 18, the 100 Great Community Hospitals list recognizes hospitals for their clinical quality, operational excellence, and economic impact on the surrounding area. According to the Becker’s website, the magazine defines a community hospital as an institution with no more than 550 beds.

The 2019 list includes facilities located nationwide, some of which possess large, rural service areas, and others that care for small communities outside of big cities. Both independent hospitals and those affiliated with large health systems were eligible, but only two Maine hospitals made this year’s list.

“Achieving recognition as one of the nation’s best community hospitals, for the fourth year in a row, is a truly incredible honor and testament to the remarkable work that our team of great clinical, support staff, and volunteers do to deliver outstanding care 365 days a year,” said Lois Skillings, President and CEO of Mid Coast–Parkview Health. “This acknowledgement once again proves patients can fully trust Mid Coast Hospital to prioritize their needs and consistently deliver outstanding healthcare right here at home.”

The Becker’s editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on several outside rankings and awards, from organizations such as iVantage Health Analytics, The Chartis Center for Rural Health’s Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals, and CareChex ratings, among others.

Mid Coast Hospital remains the only community hospital in Maine to be named a Magnet™ hospital, the highest international distinction a healthcare organization can receive for nursing and patient care excellence, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Additionally, in May, Mid Coast received Magnet designation for the third consecutive time, putting it among only three percent of U.S. hospitals that have been named Magnet facilities three times in a row.

“Mid Coast Hospital is grateful for these acknowledgements. They truly illustrate that we continue to uphold our mission of caring for the health of our community,” said Skillings.
