Mid Coast-Parkview Health names Bowe as its new president

Currently chief medical officer, Bowe succeeds Lois Skillings, who announced her retirement earlier this year.

Brunswick, Maine - The chief medical officer of Mid Coast-Parkview Health has been named its new president.

Christopher Bowe, MD, succeeds Lois Skillings, RN, who earlier this year announced her intention to retire. Bowe, who has been chief medical officer and vice president of medical administration at MCPH since 2020, will assume his new responsibilities on Jan. 1.

“We were all very impressed with Chris, and both the Mid Coast - Parkview Health Board and the MaineHealth Board of Trustees gave him their unanimous support,” said Lenora Burke, chair of the MCPH Board.

During his tenure as MCPH’s chief medical officer, Bowe was the clinical leader who oversaw the organization’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, heading MCPH’s Incident Command team and providing strategic and clinical leadership during the deployment of mass vaccination clinics.

This work, combined with his extensive experience as a physician and health care executive, greatly impressed the search committee, according Andrea Patstone, Coastal Region president at MaineHealth, whose responsibilities include MCPH as well as local health systems in Lincoln County, Rockport and Belfast.

“In Chris we get, not only a knowledgeable and compassionate physician leader, but a highly competent executive who knows the community and the important role Mid Coast – Parkview Health plays in supporting the people who live there,” said Patstone.

Bowe received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and completed the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Maine Medical Center, spending a year as chief resident. For 10 years, he was the associate residency director and a faculty member at Maine Medical Center in Portland in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Prior to joining MCPH, Bowe spent four years as chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston.

Bowe completed the Physician Leadership Fellowship at MaineHealth and the Advanced Course at the Physician Executive Leadership Institute at the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership in Portland. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

“The quality of the Mid Coast-Parkview care team, the legacy of leadership here and our being a part of Maine’s leading healthcare provider all make this an incredible opportunity,” said Bowe. “That I get to pursue this opportunity in a vibrant and livable place like the Mid Coast region makes it special indeed.”
