PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $10,000 TO MAINE’S GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND

PORTLAND, ME – As part of its ongoing effort to enhance the quality of life for residents in the communities where People’s United Bank operates, the People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded $10,000 to Goodwill Industries of Northern New England in Portland, Maine.

 Goodwill Industries  job training and placement initiatives, career counseling, housing opportunities and other support services have been widely recognized for assisting individuals with disabilities and those who face barriers to achieving independence.

 “We are pleased to receive the $10,000 grant from People’s United Community Foundation,” said Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, President and Chief Executive Officer, Goodwill Industries of Northern New England. “The funding will be used to support our Long Creek Work Training Services program.”

 The Long Creek Work Training Services program provides a 6-week, pai training program to youth who are soon to be released from Long Creek Youth Development Center in Portland, Maine.

 “Goodwill Industries provides valuable services to our community and those throughout northern New England,” stated Dan Thornton, Officer of People’s United Community Foundation and Southern Maine President, People’s United Bank. “We are proud to support their efforts in assisting our troubled youth.”

 Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. People’s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include community development, youth development, and affordable housing.
