PORTLAND, ME – The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded $2,500 to My Place Teen Center’s Youth Leadership Academy.

The Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) is a comprehensive positive youth development program created to increase Developmental Assets; build strengths, attitudes and skills; and reduce risky behaviors among My Place Teen Center youth.

The funding from People’s United Community Foundation will support programming that targets participants’ work ethics, job skills, and volunteerism, as well as the life skills needed for young people to live independently.

“We are ecstatic that People’s United believes in our mission and supports our lifesaving work with kids considered most at risk,” said Donna Dwyer, CEO, My Place Teen Center.

“My Place Teen Center fills a critical need in the community, providing a safe haven for youth between the ages of 10 and 18,” said Dan Thornton, Officer, People’s United Community Foundation and President, People's United Bank, Maine. “We are proud to support the work of the Youth Leadership Academy.”
