PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $3,500 TO FURNITURE FRIENDS

July 16, 2015

PORTLAND, ME – As part of its ongoing effort to enhance the quality of life for residents in the communities where People’s United Bank operates, the People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded $3,500 to Furniture Friends.

"We are grateful for the generosity of People's United Community Fund.  It has been through support such as this grant and the hard work of our many volunteers that Furniture Friends has reached so many families in need this past year” stated Roberta Lipsman, Board President, Furniture Friends.

“We are pleased to provide funding that will help to deliver basic furniture necessities to newly housed disadvantaged families and individuals,” stated Dan Thornton, Officer of People’s United Community Foundation and Southern Maine President for People’s United Bank. “The agency has done very well providing 120 households in 2012 with furniture, doubling that number in 2013, and tripling to 340 in 2014.”

Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. People’s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include community development, youth development, and affordable housing.
