December 15, 2014

BANGOR, ME – The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded $7,500 to Habitat for Humanity York County.

An independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat for Humanity York County builds and sells homes to hard-working, low-income families in need of decent and affordable housing. Thus far, Habitat for Humanity York County has revitalized neighborhoods and changed lives by providing 26 homes to deserving families.

“The donation from People’s United Community Foundation will allow us to move our Veterans Build Project forward at a more rapid pace for Veteran Waylon Holbrook and his family,” said Steve Bolton, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity York County. “We truly appreciate that People’s United Community Foundation has joined Honorary Project Chairman George H.W. Bush in our quest to provide affordable housing to our veteran families.”

“This funding allows us to honor all that our service members have done for our country and give back to those that have given so much,” said Dan Thornton, Officer, People’s United Community Foundation and Southern Maine President of People’s United Bank. “We are very proud to be able to support Habitat’s Veteran’s Build program.”

Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. People’s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include community development, youth development, and affordable housing.
