PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $7,500 TO MAINE’S COASTAL ENTERPRISES

March 5, 2015

PORTLAND, ME – The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded $7,500 to Coastal Enterprises in Wiscasset.

Coastal Enterprises is a community development corporation and financial institution that provides financing and individual consulting and training to small and micro-businesses, community facilities, and affordable housing organizations. Funding from People’s United Community Foundation will support the organization’s first-time homebuyer, foreclosure prevention and reverse mortgage-counseling programs.

“This grant will help us serve more than 600 Maine residents this year through our Housing Counseling and Education program,” said Ronald Phillips, President and CEO of Coastal Enterprises. “We assist individuals who are facing foreclosure to understand their options, rights and responsibilities, and often work with them to negotiate successful loan modifications. First-time homebuyers who participate in the program are able to become responsible and successful homeowners.”

“Coastal Enterprises is providing a safety net for residents in Maine through its Housing Counseling and Education Program,” said Dan Thornton, Officer of People’s United Community Foundation and Southern Maine President for People’s United Bank. “We are pleased to help individuals and families achieve housing stability through our support of this important initiative.”

Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. People’s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include affordable housing, community development, and youth development
