Register for Mental Health First Aid Training

October 8, 2015

University College at Bath/Brunswick will host Mental Health First Aid Training on Friday, 11/20, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm in Orion Hall, Room 103.

This training is beneficial to anyone who may be in a position to help another experiencing a mental health related crisis or problem. The training will be conducted by NAMI Maine.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a best-practice, evidence-based certification course 8 hours in length leading to a 3-year certification by the National Council on Behavioral Health. It mirrors the idea of regular first aid, empowering individuals with just enough information to respond and help guide an adult with a mental health need to get the right kind of help:

  • Trainees will learn a five-step action plan to help loved ones, colleagues and neighbors cope with mental health problems.
  • Similar to traditional First Aid and CPR, MHFA helps a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis until professional treatment is obtained.

There is a fee of $5 which covers pizza, bottled water, chocolate and tent cards.

Class size is limited so please register early. To register please go to the NAMI Maine website, find our local Brunswick training on the list, then click on the register link (be sure to look at all pages).
