Scholarship to Olivia Shipsey at Morse High School

June 21, 2016

The Margaret Oliver Ladue Foundation, a nonprofit, charitable organization based in Springfield, Massachusetts, awarded its 6th annual scholarship to Olivia Shipsey at Morse High School’s Scholarship Night in Bath, Maine.

The 2016 Margaret Oliver Ladue Scholarship includes a monetary award in the amount of $3,000, which Shipsey will apply toward the costs associated with her attendance at the University of Maine at Orono this Fall where she will major in communication & journalism.

Olivia Shipsey is a resident of Bath and a 2016 graduate of Morse High School. Shipsey received the St. Michael’s Book Award last year, which is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates a sustained & sincere commitment to community service, issues of peace and justice, and concern for others. Due to her outstanding academic achievement, character, service, and leadership ability, she was also selected as a member of the Morse chapter of the National Honor Society.

One of Shipsey’s senior-year teachers noted: “Olivia is one of my best students. She will change the world: with her caring, with her love of life, and with her human touch.” Her School Counselor added: “ … Olivia demonstrates an uncommon ability to accomplish many things and accomplish them with passion. When I see her interacting with others … Olivia exudes a love for life that I have rarely encountered in her peers. She is never without a smile and a kind word for those around her, which makes the activities in which she engages all the richer for her presence.”

As of 2016, a total of $18,000 in scholarships have been awarded by The Margaret Oliver Ladue Foundation to six exceptional high school graduates. In addition to its annual scholarship award, the Foundation also supports other worthy organizations and causes, such as: the Corporate Angel Network, the CHD Cancer House of Hope, The Bridge of Flowers, Blue Star Equiculture, AIDS Project Rhode Island – among others.

The funds for this year’s scholarship were raised at the Foundation’s recent annual fundraising event on March 12th at the Ludlow Country Club in Ludlow, MA. This year’s event theme was “Celebrating Margaret’s Love of Music”, and was generously supported by the following 2016 Table Sponsors: Card Box Rentals at Jerome’s Party Plus, Copycat Print Shop West Springfield, Card Box Rentals at Hidden Treasures, Guenther Associates Graphic Design, Travel Plus Travel Agency, Vernon Cole & Dawn Bartolucci, Becca EB Photography, Berkshire Blanket, Bellamy Middle School, and Barnes & Noble Booksellers
