April 6, 2021

SMMC is Hiring for a Chamber Coordinator for 20 Hours Per Week, to Start

The Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber (SMMC) is looking to add an energetic, enthusiastic and
organized staff member to our team to help our business owners and their employees thrive in the Brunswick, Bath, Topsham, Harpswell region.

The ideal candidate will be a problem solver who can adapt to working on multiple projects each week.  There is a tremendous opportunity for the right candidate to help shape how this growing organization will evolve, and they will be a key part in creating the best practices to make this organization continue its upward
trajectory.

In short, we are looking for a builder.  Someone who can help us realize our goals, and who can help create new ones through their vision and creativity.

This position is part-time, 20 hours per week, to start. Starting pay will be between $15 to $18 per hour
depending on experience.  Someone with organizational experience, is helpful, but we are also willing to train the person with the right passion and background.

Below are some particulars, for those who like more specifics:

The ideal candidate will be outgoing, personable, punctual, thorough, reliable and kind. Some computer skills are a plus, as well as experience with social media, however the main characteristic we’re looking for is a professional, friendly problem solver.  Some key duties and attributes we are looking for include:

  • Responding to relocation requests, creating mailout packages, and helping citizens and business leaders find the information they need

  • Assisting in the creation and editing of marketing materials including the weekly e-newsletter, newspaper columns, website content management and social media presence

  • Assisting with Chamber event planning and, at times, execution (events such as the Midcoast Tree Festival, our Awards Dinner, networking events and our golf tournament)

  • Always acting in a non-partisan way, always valuing people over things and striving to be flexible when you’re wrong, and stubborn when you’re right

  • Being a check on the effectiveness of our programming and constantly seeking ways to improve it

  • Showing creativity through new ideas and projects you think the community would  find useful

  • Developing organizational systems to help with work flow

  • Building a time machine; just kidding- making sure you got this far in the reading, if you did mention it in your interview

  • Being a positive ambassador for the SMMC in both presentation and attitude

For those who are up for that sort of challenge, please contact Cory King, Executive Director of the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber, at (207) 725-8797 or executivedirector@midcoastmaine.com or you can submit your resume at any time.

The position will stay open until the right candidate is found, with the earliest starting date being May 3, 2021.
