Tedford Housing Honors Local Organizations and Outgoing Board Members at Annual Meeting and Awards Event
BRUNSWICK, Maine (July 15, 2015) – Tedford Housing, a nonprofit agency working to find lasting solutions to end homelessness, held its annual meeting and awards event on June 11th at The Daniel Hotel in Brunswick. Merrymeeting Board of Realtors, Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program and the Brunswick Pathway Vineyard Church were recognized for their contributions to Tedford Housing and its clients. In addition, Executive Director Craig A. Phillips gave an update on Tedford Housing’s strategic plan and discussed recent successes and new challenges, and outgoing board members were acknowledged for their service to the organization.
The following awards were handed out at the event:
The Scooty Brownell Award – given annually to those who have a history of supporting Tedford Housing in more than one way including financial, volunteering, advocacy or leadership – was awarded to Merrymeeting Board of Realtors.
The Tedford Home Award – given annually to one or more organizations who have worked closely with Tedford Housing to help meet its mission of ending homelessness – was awarded to Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program.
The Margit Cook Award – given annually to one or more persons who demonstrate exemplary volunteer service to Tedford Housing, have served in a formal volunteer capacity for at least five years and are recommended by Tedford Housing staff as persons of great integrity and outstanding volunteer service – was awarded to the Brunswick Pathway Vineyard Church.
Craig Phillips, Executive Director, reviewed highlights of the agency’s strategic plan with a focus on “finding lasting solutions to the challenges of homelessness” through working with many sectors of the thirty-three communities served by Tedford in northern Cumberland, Sagadahoc and Lincoln counties. Phillips thanked the Warm Thy Neighbor heating assistance volunteers who provided 384 hours of service for a value of $11,385, serving 165 households and 373 beneficiaries. He acknowledged students at area high schools who were homeless and graduating from high school with the assistance of the Merrymeeting Program. TJ Maxx and Wicked Joe Coffee were mentioned as examples of many area businesses which had provided goods or services to the emergency shelter facilities in Brunswick. Phillips stated, “Every day we witness children, families and adults who have overcome their homelessness and who now have stability in their lives to further pursue great accomplishments.”
Outgoing board members recognized at the event included Judy Montgomery, associate librarian at Bowdoin College; John Fitzgerald, the William D. Shipman Professor of Economics at Bowdoin College; Reverend Bill Bliss of the Neighborhood Faith Community in Bath; Anne Morham, a retired social worker from Sweetser; and Barbara Gaul, vice president, marketing/corporate clerk for Bath Savings Institution. Each board member served Tedford Housing for two consecutive three year terms and actively participated in various board committees.
