Maine State Music Theatre will host its final Film Friday May 21 at Brunswick’s Curtis Memorial Library.

Featuring the fourth show of it’s main stage season, the 1939 version of The Wizard of Oz will be screened at 6 PM and take place in the Morrell Meeting Room.

This 1939 American musical-fantasy is considered to be one of the greatest films in cinema history. Starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, the story follows her whimsical adventure through Oz with help from the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), the Tinman (Jack Haley), the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) and her dog, Toto. Featuring memorable tunes such as “If I Only Had a Brain” and the Oscar winning “Over the Rainbow” this movie has remained an icon in American cinema and pop-culture since it’s release in 1939. The showing will be followed by a talk-back with Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, who will discuss how the film compares to the stage version. Film Fridays are free and open to the public.
