What is silviculture and how might you enhance the ecological and/or economic values of your woodlot? What are some key considerations made in developing a true “forest” management plan? How do you strike a proper balance between what may be competing wildlife, recreational, aesthetic – and timber interests? What about invasive species? What’s most important in developing your short- and long-term management goals for your own patch of wooded heaven – be it 10 or 10,000 acres?
Join the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust for a walk with the purpose of seeing the forest for the trees. BTLT Board Member and forester Charlie Spies, along with Steve Pelletier, consulting forester and wildlife biologist, will spend a couple of hours walking the forest trails of Crystal Spring Farm to discuss all these topics and more.
Come dressed properly for a walk with your questions and concerns about forest and woodland management. Meet at the trailhead at Crystal Spring Farm-North, where the Tom Settlemire Community Garden is located, at the end of Maurice Drive in Brunswick.
