Connecting to the Natural World with Nordic Skis and a Passport 6:00 PM Topsham Public Library , TOPSHAM

Tyler DeAngelis, a Maine native, Bowdoin alum (’15), and CREA Board Member discusses how Nordic ski racing allowed him to explore his own backyard in Maine and the natural world abroad while ski racing across Europe and Asia. In addition to talking about nordic skiing and travel in the context of nature, Tyler will also discuss what he learned from other cultures’ relationships with the environment. This talk will include pictures, videos, and stories from Tyler’s racing and travels in nature in Maine, the U.S. and abroad.

Tyler teaches biology, physics, and earth science (through mapping software) at Baxter Academy for Technology and Science and has a passion for teaching place-based courses. While at Bowdoin College, Tyler took many courses in environmental science and completed a summer fellowship for the Brunswick Topsham Land Trust that had him working at the Cathance River Nature Preserve almost daily. In addition to his studies, Tyler was on the Bowdoin College Nordic Ski Team and spent many hours training in and appreciating the natural world of Midcoast Maine.
