Dosha Dance & Sound Healing in Nature 10:30 AM CREA Ecology Center , Topsham

Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine dating back more than 5,000 years, discovered what’s best for your body type long before modern science. Much more than a form of medicine to treat illness, it’s a philosophy that addresses every aspect of our lives — body, mind, and spirit.

In Ayurveda, Dosha translates to “that which easily goes out of balance”. The science of Ayurveda is based on body types or doshas. It considers how to balance the energy of the doshas for each person. Illness can result when there’s an imbalance of our personal doshas. Ayurvedic remedies focus on diet, herbs, and lifestyle activities — like meditation, dance and massage — to help bring balance and health to your life.

According to Ayurvedic philosophy, everything is composed of five elements — Space, Air, Water, Fire, and Earth. Everything is a specific combination of these five elements — including you. The combination of the five elements creates three dominant forms of energy or doshas (pronounced doe-shahs), which some refer to as body types. The three doshas or body types are — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

During this 1.5 hour workshop, participants will discover their personal doshas and how understanding them can help us be more mindful of our wellness. We’ll then follow a series of low-impact dance movements to warm the body, strengthen our voice, express gratitude, and re-connect with nature.
