Expedition Everest and Climate Change 6:00 PM Cathance River Education Alliance - Virtual Event , Topsham, ME Learn what it’s like to travel to truly remote sites around the world as part of the effort to better understand climate change. Professor Paul Mayewski will talk about his 2019 National Geographic expedition to install automated weather stations on and near Mt. Everest and numerous other expeditions to remote sites around the world – all in pursuit of data on how our climate is changing. He will also discuss the impact of climate change on our corner of the world in Maine. The talk will be presented via Zoom with opportunities to ask questions of the speaker.

Professor Paul Mayewski is a well-known glaciologist, climate scientist, and polar explorer – from our very own University of Maine. Director of UMaine’s Climate Change Institute in the School of Earth and Climate Sciences, he has led more than 55 expeditions to some of the most remote polar and high altitude reaches of the planet, including Antarctica, Greenland, Tibet, sub-Antarctic Islands, the Himalayas, and the Andes. He has published hundreds of scientific articles, received numerous honors, written two books, serves on numerous boards, and been a regular presence in the media.
