Cryptograms Nature Walk 9:30 AM Cathance River Education Alliance, 28 Rensenbrink Way , Topsham

Led by Maine Master Naturalist Alan Seamans, this walk will focus on a broad variety of Cryptogams. Cryptogams encompasses plants or plant-like organisms that reproduce by spores, such as mushrooms, mosses, lichens, ferns, and slime molds. (The name Cryptogam is derived from the Greek word kruptos (‘hidden’) and gamos (‘marriage’) because the means of reproduction was not apparent.)

Learn about these often-ignored and little-appreciated organisms which are both fascinating and important to forest ecology. Alan will guide participants in basic identification and share information about Cryptogams’ many interesting adaptations and characteristics.

Alan Seamans is a Maine Master Naturalist and a lifelong science and nature enthusiast.

This walk is free but registration is required. Maximum size of 15 participants. Rain date: Sept. 19.
