Lecture Series – Migration & Refugees: Economics, Security & What’s Ahead 6:00 PM Lunt Auditorium, OceanView at Falmouth, 74 Lunt Road , Falmouth, ME 04105

In a Falmouth Memorial Library & OceanView Partnership Event, John Doughty will give a talk titled “Global Migration and Refugees: Why People Migrate, the Economics and Security Implications of Immigration and the Current Refugee Crisis, and What Lies Ahead.”

The world has witnessed periods of mass migrations so large that they have had influential impacts on the course of human history. The current movement of people around the globe is unprecedented in its scale and scope and will have lasting political, economic, and social consequences. It also presents a major policy challenge for international institutions and governments which have largely been ineffective. Looking ahead, the global climate will play an increasingly larger role in human mass migration as food and water sources are further stressed – making the challenge faced by global leaders all the more pressing.
John Doughty has studied defense and foreign policy issues for decades and lectures on these topics frequently. He is a board member of the Camden Conference, the World Affairs Council of Maine, and serves on the board of trustees at the Maine Historical Society.

This lecture is sponsored by Falmouth Memorial Library and presented as part of our ongoing Library/OceanView collaborative lecture series. FMI: Jeannie Madden at (207) 781-2351 or jmadden@falmouth.lib.me.us
