Currently in their 8th season of summer concerts, Blue Hill Bach will perform Bach’s glorious Mass in B minor at the Gracie Theatre. The performance will be realized in much the same fashion as it would have been heard originally. For the first half of the mass, the Missa, five singers will be heard in solo and chorus parts; the second part of the work will be performed by a chorus of 22, from which soloists will be drawn. An orchestra of 18 performers, under the leadership of Festival Music Director John Finney, will play period instruments or reproductions of period instruments. With guidance from Artistic Director Stephen Hammer, Blue Hill Bach brings together some of the nation’s top specialists in early music scholarship and performance with local singers and instrumentalists, including students from area high schools and colleges.
