Innovators in their approach, Johanna Wigg, PhD, and Cheryl Golek, Dementia Care Specialist, set out to prove that long-term care for elders living with dementing illnesses could be enhanced in a home-like, compassionate environment.

The Vicarage by the Sea was founded with the desire to create a difference in the lives of those living with dementia. Our philosophy believes that every human being deserves the opportunity to grow, regardless of age or ailment.

The Vicarage provides genuine care based on a psychosocial model, emphasizing the wellbeing of each residents mind, body and soul.

Genuine care requires us to recognize within each beating heart the need to grow, within each weakened limb the yearning for action, within each mind the desire to do as well as be (Thomas 1994).

Advocates for the care of a vulnerable population in American society, their passion shows that this population can be cared for in a more humane manner, far greater than traditional settings.
