Mid Coast Health Unveils New Home for Bath Primary Care

June 11, 2015

Mid Coast Health Services celebrated the opening of a new medical practice in downtown Bath yesterday, June 9. Attended by more than 200 hospital administrators, medical staff, town officials, and community partners, the evening included a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mid Coast Medical Group-Bath physicians and staff, as well as Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber representatives. The new home to Mid Coast Medical Group-Bath is conveniently located at 108 Centre Street in the heart of downtown Bath.

Valued at more than $6 million, the 20,000 square-foot, two-story healthcare center was built to accommodate delivery of preventive and chronic disease care, as well as integrated behavioral health counseling. This advanced model of adult care practice, known as a Patient-Centered Medical Home, is proven to improve patient outcomes and lower costs of healthcare. Mid Coast Medical Group-Bath is recognized as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home—the highest level of recognition possible—by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

In her remarks, Lois Skillings, President and CEO of Mid Coast Health Services, said, “In order to meet the changing and growing needs for 21st century healthcare, this new location and the building design that you see here could not be better suited to help us achieve our mission to improve the health of the community. This state-of the art facility is a great step forward for our patients, as well as the physicians and staff who care for them, the City of Bath, and our community.”

When asked about the impact that the newly constructed medical center would have on the region, Bath City Manager Bill Giroux noted his approval of the project saying, “I'm very pleased that Mid Coast Health Services and JHR Development chose to make this investment in Downtown Bath. The economic impact will be significant.”

Developed and owned by JHR Development, the new medical center was designed by Maine-based architects Gawron Turgeon to blend with the area’s existing historic architecture. Wright-Ryan Construction of Portland acted as the building contractor and SMRT of Portland designed the interior space, which will be occupied by the Mid Coast Medical Group practice and its team of healthcare providers and support staff.

Developer J. Hilary Rockett, Jr. commented, “This new facility is in a perfect location for the people of Bath. Working with Mid Coast, the City of Bath, and so many committed partners to create this building has been a fantastic process that will have lasting benefits for the City and its residents.”

The practice staff includes eight physicians, one physician assistant, 26 support staff members, and one full-time licensed clinical social worker. The care team will begin seeing patients at the Centre Street location beginning Monday, June 15.
