On Sunday, September 9, 2012, from 10-4 Five River Arts Alliance will present its 16th annual Family Arts Festival on the Brunswick Mall, Brunswick, Maine. For the first time, the Five Rivers will join forces with Cornerstones of Science to energize the Festival as the Family Arts & Science Festival, celebrating the merging flow of imagination and knowledge. The Festival will feature artists offering workshops and demonstrations related to the appreciation and concern for nature and the stars. Workshops will celebrate the intermingling of creative thought with academic roots. Drawing, painting, and crafting will reflect imagination of scientific principles. Cornerstones of Science will have astronomers with telescopes, rockets to launch, an exhibit by Astra-photographers and more. Discovery zones will allow the exploration of stars, planets and other bodies of the universe through astro-photography and the sidewalk astronomers. The environment will be exciting a sense of wonder through touch pools, hands-on creative activities and specialists. Rachel Carson’s seminal book, “The Silent Spring,” will be shared in readings and discussions about how this has affected our quality of life here in Maine. The festival is pleased to present local musicians, throughout the day, selected for their affiliation with the arts and science, that will be performing on the gazebo including Lisa Redfern, Peter Alexander, Kat Logan and others. Demonstrations and performances will also be given by local businesses. All events are free of charge, courtesy of Five Rivers and Cornerstones of Science, and local sponsors.
