Faye Luppi, J.D., and Erika Nielsen, Family Crisis Advocate, will present an Introduction to Domestic Violence in the Workplace. They will:
Domestic abuse does not stay at home; it can endanger employee safety and security and affect legal liability. Domestic abuse can also increase healthcare costs, and compromise employee performance and well-being. As reported in the June 14, 2004 issue of “MaineBiz,” a ground-breaking study by Family Crisis Services and the Maine Department of Labor found “decreased productivity, accidents as a result of lack of concentration, and absences due to court appearances and jail all were common side-effects of an abuser at work obsessed with controlling” a partner. One Maine employer noted in the article that “policies on spousal abuse are more than just an ethical obligation- they’re necessary for workplace safety…as important as a fire evacuation plan.”
