Most people don’t think about the supermarket for a Black Friday event. That is just what is happening the day after Thanksgiving when Just Write Books’ authors visit Shaw’s Supermarket, Thursday, November 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. At this free event, local authors, Henry Bird, Robert Chute, Frank Heymann and Samantha Ricker, will sign books and visit with the public. Henry L. Bird will sign Ride the Wind: Biologist and Pastor. “Rowing allowed me to excel,” Henry L. Bird said, understating his accomplishments in many areas. His book is full of understatements and minimalist reports. A devoted husband and father Bird lives the adage, “It takes a village.” Henry has served as ordained a priest and minister, was a dedicated civil rights advocate, served with Native American communities in the Southwest and Maine and always returned to his roots in Maine. Robert Chute, a seventh generation Maine native and retired professor of biology, will sign three of his novels. Roadside Rest is the third and most recent in a series of mysteries based in post WWII rural Maine. Coming Home: A Maine Mystery and Return to Sender began the series. Nancy Grape of the Portland Press Herald remarked Chute’s characters are “men and women strong at the core, steady as the wind blows and poised to protect and preserve their heritage.” Frank Heymann will sign Fanciful Tales & Poems for Grandchildren of Any Age. Heymann edited his late wife’s, Irene Rommell Heymann, writings and worked with Just Write Books to produce Fanciful Tales. Whimsical, quirky and endearing—the stories will lighten your days and cause great enjoyment during bedtime readings. Samantha Ricker will sign The Maine Conscious Consumer. Ricker is a local living enthusiast and lives what she writes and speaks. Ricker serves as the director's assistant at Main Street Bath and consults with land trusts and other organizations working on sustainability.
