BRUNSWICK, Maine----“Wicked busy painting Maine” says the poster Bill Tomsa distributes introducing his work to the community. Tomsa’s exhibit will open Thursday, July 7 with a discussion by the artist at 4:00 p.m., followed by a reception from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Thornton Oaks retirement community, 25 Thornton Way. The exhibit will continue through August 11. Rural scenes, street scenes, seascapes and waterways dominate his present work. “I’m continually inspired by the abundance of subject matter to paint in Maine,” says Tomsa. “Rural areas and small towns offer up their own uniqueness and particular beauty. I am presently drawn to painting buildings, roads, rusty bridges and other manmade structures incorporated in the natural beauty of the woodlands and coastal areas. This evidence of the human existence in our world influences my art as much as nature’s beauty does.” Tomsa has exhibited throughout Maine; he is a member of multiple Maine art organizations and has been included in numerous juried exhibits throughout Maine and the United States. Tomsa and his wife Gloria have made their home in Maine for the past seven years, a big change from their previous 12 years in Arizona. Tomsa majored in graphic design in college and enjoyed a successful career as a graphic designer and freelance illustrator for more than 25 years. He has directed his full attention to a career in fine art since the late 1990’s. Collectors of his art are scattered throughout the United States as well as several countries.
