Chamber Luncheon - Affordable Care Act: What Employers Need to Know 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM Bath Golf Club, Whiskeag Rd. , Bath, Maine

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has many implications for the business community, especially those companies subject to the employer mandate or “pay or play” rules.   New federal guidelines will determine what your health plan must cover, the minimum value it must provide employees, the eligibility parameters that determine who in your company can participate in your health plan, and how much of the plan premium you as an employer must pay.

The employer mandate has been delayed to 2015, but don’t wait to begin preparations.  Ensuring you can minimize your risk and expense requires action now.

There are many questions employers must answer:

  • How do you count your employees to determine if you are a large employer under the Act?
  • How can you ensure your health plan meets the required standards for coverage and affordability?
  • How can you avoid paying penalties?

Industry experts, Joel Allumbaugh and Steve Gerlach bring you an important ACA employer seminar.  Joel and Steve will provide clarity on the employer mandate and go beyond to highlight key benefit strategies you can use to minimize your risk of noncompliance. 

PRESENTERS

Joel Allumbaugh is Chief Executive Officer of National Worksite Benefit Group, Inc. (NWBG). Joel cofounded NWBG in 2003, a full service employee benefits insurance agency specializing in patient-centered health plan strategies. Joel serves as the Director of the Center for Health Reform Initiatives at Te Maine Heritage Policy Center. He is past director of the Maine Association of Health Underwriters where he served as President from 2002-2003 and from 2007 to 2011. Joel is a licensed life and health insurance consultant and continuing education instructor. Joel hosted Inside Maine Healthcare, a television program aired on the Time Warner Cable network from 2010 to 2012.

Steve Gerlach is a compensation attorney with Bernstein Shur Counselors at Law and NWBG’s new strategic compliance partner. He counsels employers on executive compensation, employee benefit plans and ERISA. He advises businesses, nonprofits and governmental employers on the compliance and costs of the Affordable  Care Act. Steve was voted one of the Best Lawyers in America for 2013.
