New York Philharmonic principal oboist Liang Wang will be joined by his colleague Philip Myers, the Philharmonic's principal horn, in the opening work, Trio in D major. OP.61 by Heinrich von Herzogenberg.
Violist Paul Neubauer of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will then lead a string sextet, Soul Garden, by composer in residence Derek Bermel. Bermel is currently Artist-in-Residence at the Institute for Advanced Study. Composer-in-Residence with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Creative Adviser to the American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. His awards include the Rome Prize and Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships. Rounding out the sextet will be Maria Schleuning and Laura Lutzke, violin; Jesus Gonzalez, viola; and Rosemary Elliott and one of the Festival;s top students on cello.
Long-time Bowdoin Festival favorite, Emma Tahmizian, will close out the concert with works for solo piano by Brahms (selections for Walzer. Op. 39) and Schoenberg (Piano Suite. Op.25).
