Showcasing nearly 90 rarely seen examples of the artist's formative work. Accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue. This exhibition and catalogue are devoted to Edward Hopper’s extraordinary artistic production in Maine between 1914 and 1929, and offer a crucial reassessment of this important period. Very little attention has been paid to the nine fruitful summers Hopper spent in Maine, painting and sketching in Ogunquit, Monhegan, Rockland, Cape Elizabeth, and Portland, among other places. Edward Hopper’s Maine brings together for the first time the largest gathering of this material, among the most beautiful and evocative of the artist’s career.
